Virtual Space

Is it true what we feel, touch, and see? If you believe the world is based on material, obviously the answer is yes. But think deeply, our sense is a variety of signals given by our brains. What if our brain is controlled by a computer?

Brain in a Vat, a well-famous thought experiment, which originated from Gilbert Harman. From his guess, a mad scientist puts a person’s brain in the vat full of life-sustaining liquid then connects its nerve to a supercomputer which stimulates the reality. It sounds like what we can do by a VR headset. The only difference is the brain in the vat is hard to find out the reality is stimulated by a computer, but we can.

For this project, I create a course in a video game called Super Mario Maker 2 which players can design and upload levels they made so others can play it. I built an amusement park for my character Toad. Does he have his own consciousness? Would he recognize his world is created by me in a video game?
